Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2011. The couple have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Early Life & Education

Prince William was born Prince William Arthur Philip Louis Windsor on 21 June 1982 in London, England, to Diana, Princess of Wales and Charles, Prince of Wales. His official title is His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales.

William attended Mrs Mynor's Nursery School, West London (1985-87), Wetherby School, Kensington, London (1987-90) and Ludgrove School, Wokingham (1990-95). In 1995, at the urging of his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince William (nicknamed 'Wills') entered Eton College, one of the most prestigious secondary schools in England. A serious student with excellent marks at Eton, he also excelled at sports, particularly swimming. With his father and brother, he enjoys outdoor sports such as horseback riding, skiing, shooting and fishing.

In addition to his military career, William supports numerous charities, including sponsorship of Centrepoint, an organization for homeless youth, and Tusk Trust, which is dedicated to preserving African wildlife. In 2007, William and his brother Harry held a special concert to celebrate their late mother and to raise funds for charities supported by Princess Diana throughout her life as well as charities supported by the princes.

In September 2013, Prince William announced that he was leaving the military to concentrate on his royal duties and charity work. Additionally, according to BBC News, Prince William planned to devote much of his energies to wildlife conservation. He stated: "The threats to our natural heritage are vast, but I believe this collaboration of the brightest minds in conservation will provide the impetus for renewed commitment and action to protect endangered species and habitats for future generations."

While maintaining his royal duties, Prince William announced in 2014 that he would be taking a job as a pilot with Bond Air Services, an air ambulance company. He began training for the position in 2015. It was reported that Prince William was believed to be the first British royal heir to work in the private sector and that his salary would be donated to charity.

As the future King of England, William has seen his personal life become the subject of much media attention. He was romantically linked to Kate Middleton after the couple met while they were students at St Andrew's University, with rumors of a possible engagement swirling around the couple for months. To the surprise of royal observers, the couple announced their separation in April 2007 before Middleton reappeared at several public and official events, accompanying Prince William on holiday. Speculations of a wedding engagement between the two continued to swell.

On November 16, 2010, it was announced that Prince William and Kate Middleton were engaged. Prince William popped the question while on vacation in Kenya with his mother's engagement ring in October. It was also stated that the couple would live in North Wales where Prince William was stationed with the Royal Air Force. Middleton is not of royal or aristocratic descent, a break with long-standing royal tradition.

With his marriage in Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, the Queen officially bestowed on her grandson the title William, Duke of Cambridge, as well as the additional titles Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus. He was later appointed Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their second child on May 2, 2015. The Duchess gave birth to a daughter, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces at 8:34am local time at St Mary's Hospital World. The baby is the Queen's fifth great-grandchild and third in line to the throne after her brother Prince George.

In September 2017, Kensington Palace announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were expecting their third child. Middleton gave birth to Prince Louis Arthur Charles on April 23, 2018. The newest member of her family weighed 8 lb, 7 oz.

The Royal Foundation

The non-profit organization was founded in 2009 as The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry and eventually became a foundationThe Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridgein 2019.

The foundation has focused on issues such as mental healthheads togetherInitiative and programs to help children and veterans transition into civilian life.

In late 2019, Prince William announced plans to award the Earthshot Prize to five award winners each year over the course of a decade, presenting the best solutions to the planet's pressing environmental problems.

In April 2020, the Duke and Duchess announced they would use the foundation to support first responders and families affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
